Mayo Clinic and Illinois Alliance - Fellowships for Technology-Based Healthcare Research

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the Mayo Clinic have formed a strategic alliance to promote collaborative translational research at the interface of science, engineering, and medicine. The Mayo Clinic & Illinois Alliance is dedicated to developing new technologies and clinical tools, with the goal of advancing individualized medicine. The Alliance's interests are broad, including high-performance computing, big data, software development, imaging, nanotechnology, point-of-care diagnostics, bioinformatics, systems biology, genomics, and tissue engineering.  Current projects include:  

The fellowship program is designed to 1) support research relevant to the Alliance's goal of advancing individualized medicine and 2) creating a pathway for current Illinois graduate students to investigate post-graduation employment opportunities at the Mayo Clinic. 

The fellowship provides two years of support, one year funded by Mayo Clinic and the other year funded by Illinois. During the fellowship period, fellows must spend at least 12 months in residence at the Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester, Minnesota, where the fellow will work closely with a Mayo Clinic advisor.

Applications must include materials from the applicant as well as two letters of recommendation, one from the applicant's Illinois advisor and one from the applicant’s proposed advisor at Mayo Clinic.  Applicants and letter writers must each follow the respective guidelines below.  

Applicants:
Applicants must provide the following materials, in the following order, in a single pdf file. Name the file as follows: LastName, FirstName - Mayo Fellowship Application (for example: Smith, John - Mayo Fellowship Application). The pdf should then be emailed to LeaAnn Carson at lcarson@illinois.edu.

Letter Writers:
Letter writers must email letters, as attachments, to LeaAnn Carson at lcarson@illinois.edu.  The letter must be on official letterhead and saved as a pdf.  The name of the pdf must be as follows: Applicant'sLastName, Applicant'sFirstName - YourLastName - Mayo Fellowship Recommendation (for example: Smith, John - Anderson - Mayo Fellowship Recommendation).
